Lionel Messi fails to make L’Equipe’s team of 2020 as Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Virgil van Dijk are included

L’Equipe’s team of 2020 has been revealed and Lionel Messi was the notable absentee from the eleven stars selected by the French news outlet.

The Barcelona and Argentine forward endured a miserable year as his club missed out in the LaLiga title race and were also humiliated by Bayern Munich in the Champions League after an 8-2 thrashing.

In a 4-4-2 formation, L’Equipe decided to selected German and Bayern Munich star Manuel Neuer as goalkeeper of the year.

At the back, 20-year-old wonder-kid Alphonso Davies, Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos, and Liverpool pair Virgil van Dijk and Trent-Alexander Arnold were picked as defenders of the year.

Joshua Kimmich and former Bayern and current Liverpool star Thiago make up the centre of midfield with Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar out on the left and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne on the right.

At the front, Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo partners Robert Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
